Shalfleet is a small village in what is known locally as the West Wight. Lying 4 miles to the east of Yarmouth it is well situated for the towns of Newport (5 miles to the east), Cowes (7 miles to the north east) and Freshwater (5 miles to the west).
In the village there is a small shop and post office in Warlands Lane. The church is a 5 minute walk from the house. 350 yards away along Mill Road is the New Inn Public House. This is well known for the quality of its food as well as its beer. Shalfleet is on the Island's bus route - the nearest stop is at the end of Mill Road. Shalfleet Quay is nearby and lovely for evening walks. For the more serious walkers there is a coastal path immediately outside the Mill. There are bike trails all over the Island and many other activities for all the family from theme parks and beaches to stately homes. Please see our current availability for links to forthcoming events and attractions.
Yarmouth has plenty of good shops, restaurants and cafés. In Newport, which is a 15 minute drive away, are national high street stores and supermarkets. Both Freshwater and Cowes have smaller supermarkets and local shopping. Brook and Compton beaches are 15 minutes drive. |
