  Shalfleet Mill
A Superbly Converted Water Mill in a Secluded Setting

The Mill at Shalfleet is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 when Shalfleet Quay was one of the busiest and most important ports on the Isle of Wight. Rebuilt over the centuries, the current Mill house dates from around the 18th century and was refurbished in 2009 in a New England style. It now provides luxury accommodation in extensive grounds with an outdoor swimming pool. It adjoins Newtown Nature Reserve and the National Trust land at Shalfleet Quay.

The Mill sleeps up to 12 people in 6 bedrooms, 3 of which have 5ft beds and ensuite facilities, with the remainder being 1 full size bunkbed, 1 twin bedroom and another 5ft bedroom all sharing a family bathroom with bath and shower over. Two ensuite bedrooms have showers, and one has a Victorian slipper bath. On the ground floor is a 40ft open plan kitchen with a dining table for 12. This has 2 fridges, freezer, microwave and range oven. Some of the original mill machinery is in the kitchen. Also downstairs is a large drawing room with open fire. Above the kitchen on the first floor is a TV room and a conservatory. Outside the kitchen is a large covered verandah and terrace with over hanging rambling roses and wisteria. This leads into the grounds which are a special feature of the Mill and are bordered in part by the Calbourne River. The former mill leat and stream flow through the grounds.

There are both mature and new shrubs and trees which provide habitat for an abundance of wildlife, including the resident red squirrels, kingfishers and woodpeckers. The 33ft open air swimming pool and nearby open terrace ensure plenty of areas for both taking the sun, and the shade depending on the weather. Garden furniture is provided on the verandah, terrace and poolside so that you can decide where to eat or sit to relax.

This is really is a place where you can enjoy a holiday in a traditional mill house with modern conveniences. Bring your family and friends to enjoy a slice of Island living with all that it has to offer.

Please note that this is a house where water abounds; with an open air swimming pool, tidal river, mill race and stream. During the winter the pool is covered but from the middle of June to the middle of September it is open. Whilst access is partly restricted we cannot be responsible for your party's safety. We strongly recommend that children of all ages are supervised and the appropriate care is taken by all guests. We do not recommend that children under 4 stay here.
